Uitenhage K9 Unit members have arrested two men found in possession of 2.7 tons of stolen meat with an estimated street value of 144-thousand rand.
Captain Gerda Swart says the meat is believed to have been hijacked from a company truck shortly before nine o'clock on Friday morning.
The driver and his two passengers were en route from Markman in Port Elizabeth towards Somerset East, with a delivery of meat when they were stopped at an intersection on the N2, close to Coega.
After the meat was later transferred to another vehicle, the driver and his passengers were tied up in their truck and left behind in Khayamnandi in Despatch.
They were found a short while later by community members who notified the police.
Uitenhage K9 unit members followed up on information, which led them to Daku Street in Kwazakhele, where two suspects in their 20s were caught red-handed off-loading the stolen meat.
All the stolen meat was recovered and the two suspects were arrested on the spot. They'll appear in court on Monday on a charge of possession of stolen goods.
