UDM rejects Trollip decision over Bobani

The United Democratic Movement has rejected the move by Nelson Mandela Bay Executive Mayor, Athol Trollip, to remove Deputy Mayor Mongameli Bobani from his position as the Head of the Public Health Directorate.

Trollip made the announcement on Tuesday at an impromptu media briefing - saying Bobani's public behaviour and conduct had been unacceptable as a member of his Mayoral Committee, and not consistent with what was expected of a Deputy Mayor.

UDM leader, Bantu Holomisa, said however, that Trollip should have taken this complaint to the leaders of the coalition.

Holomisa also responded to Trollip's request for the UDM to consider nominating a  replacement for Bobani  - stating that the party will not be told by Trollip who to deploy in the municipality.

Holomisa told AlgoaFM News that as far as he's concerned, Trollip acted alone in making the decision - which is unacceptable.

Holomisa said the coalition leaders will meet to discuss a way forward at a date yet to be decided.

Holomisa concluded by saying that the UDM does not recognise Trollip's decision. He added that they are not under a DA-led municipality in Nelson Mandela Bay but rather a coalition led municipality and therefore the Mayor has to follow procedure.
