Gqeberha police arrested two truck hijacking suspects on the N2 on the city’s outskirts, with K9 Diesel nabbing one of the men who tried to get away.
Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, says police resources were mobilised following a report of a truck hijacking on Wednesday afternoon.
SAPS members from Kabega Park responded and spotted the 8-ton truck on the N2 moving in the direction of Baywest Mall.
She said they gave chase and in an attempt to get away the suspects went off the Seaview off-ramp where the driver lost control and ended up in the bushes.
Janse Van Rensburg said one suspect in the passenger side of the truck was arrested, while the driver fled into the bushes before K9 Diesel sprang into action and the man was arrested.
“Both suspects aged 28 and 32 were detained on charges of the possession of a suspected stolen truck and will appear in the Magistrate court soon. Details surrounding the hijacking were still unknown and will form part of the investigation,” she said.
