Eastern Cape police have arrested two men and confiscated a getaway vehicle and two cellphone tower batteries following a high-speed chase in Hankey.
Spokesperson, Sergeant Majola Nkohli says police were alerted on Saturday by someone about the alleged theft in progress of cellphone tower batteries at the Vodacom tower site in the town.
He says on their way to the scene, a white Nissan bakkie passed them at high speed.
Police managed to stop it on the R330 just outside Hankey and after searching the vehicle, they found two cellphone tower batteries and housebreaking implements.
The two occupants, aged 33 and 36, were arrested and are due to appear in the Hankey Magistrate's Court on Monday.
