Two suspected business robbers shot and killed, four arrested near Mthatha

Eastern Cape police shot and killed two suspects and arrested four more following a business robbery at a store in Idutywa on Friday.

Provincial spokesperson, Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana says six men entered the business and allegedly demanded money, before fleeing in the direction of Mthatha with clothing items and shoes.

He says the Tactical Response Team in Mthatha was alerted, and when the suspects later realised that they were being followed by the police, a shoot-out ensued between the police and the armed men.

Kinana says two of the suspects were fatally wounded, while four, aged between 31 and 57 were arrested at the scene.

Police confiscated six firearms.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Idutywa Magistrate's Court soon on charges of business robbery, attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
