Port Elizabeth police are investigating the shooting of two men inside a car travelling on Standford Road late Wednesday afternoon.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, identified the victims as 39-year-old Marlon Swartz of Uitenhage and 19-year-old Wayne Nel of Port Elizabeth.
A third person, an 18-year-old man escaped unharmed while three other men inside the car, remain at large.
"It is alleged that on Wednesday, 2 November between 16:00 and 17:00, Marlon Swartz (39) from Uitenhage was driving to Port Elizabeth to drop off Wayne Nel (19). They were also accompanied by an 18 year old teenager," Naidu said.
"When they arrived in Helenvanle (aka Katanga), Nel went to a shop while the other two remained in the vehicle. A short while later, Nel emerged with three other men and they all got into the vehicle. It is further alleged that at the intersection of Third Avenue and Standford Road, Nel and the three other males (all seated at the back) became embroiled in an argument."
Naidu said "shots were fired in the vehicle. Nel and Swartz (who was the driver) were fatally wounded."
"The three men got out of the vehicle and ran away. The reason for the argument is not known. During the shooting incident, Swartz had collided into the vehicle in front of him. The teenager managed to escape any injury," Naidu said.
Police are investigating two counts of murder and one of attempted murder.
