Eastern Cape police are searching for the poachers who shot and killed two rhinos on a safari farm in the Paterson area on Wednesday night.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, says an adult male and a female were dehorned.
She said the rhinos were last seen on Tuesday during an afternoon game drive but were found dead the following day, also during a game drive.
“A case of illegal hunting of a protected animal without a permit is under investigation,” Naidu said.
Meanwhile, Schotia Safari Private Game Reserve said in a Facebook post that the two rhinos, Bonnie and Clyde, had survived a past poaching incident in 2012.
"However this poaching incident would turn out differently. Armed with a high calibre gun, and a barbaric heart. Bonnie and Clyde were shot and killed on Thursday, and THEIR horns hacked off."
SAPS are appealing to anyone who can assist in tracing the suspects to contact the SAPS Provincial Wildlife Coordinator, Captain Mornay Viljoen at 082 319 9216 or Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or the nearest police station.
