Port Elizabeth police have arrested two suspects for armed robbery, rape and the illegal possesion of a fire arm.
The Flying Squad's Warrant-Officer Gerhard van der Merwe says some of their members patrolled the streets of Missionvale early on Saturday morning, when they were called out to the scene of a shooting.
He says the two suspects, aged 18 and 19 held a woman and three of her male friends at gunpoint, and one of the attackers allegedly raped the woman.
They then fled the scene and fired shots. No one was injured.
Van der Merwe says the pair was later spotted by police at a petrol station in KwaDesi, where they requested the police members to give them a lift to Gelvendale.
The members however recognised that the two matched the description of the suspects, and they were searched.
A 9mm pistol was found on one of the men, and both were arrested.
