Two people were killed and eight others injured when a mini-bus taxi overturned on the R-63 near Graaff-Reinet in wet and rainy conditions.
Department spokesperson, Unathi Binqose, eight other people were injured in Monday morning's accident involving a fully-loaded mini-bus.
He said two people also sustained injuries in another accident reported on the N2 near the Kei Cuttings where a bakkie and small truck collided.
Binqose said the jaws of life had to be used to free the injured.
He said minor crashes were reported in other parts of the province including Gqeberha and Humansdorp.
Meanwhile, Eastern Cape Transport MEC, Xolile Nqatha has called on road users, motorists in particular to be extra cautious, as steady rains in most parts of the province are causing havoc on the roads.
