Members of the National Cold Case Investigation Team have arrested two men who were allegedly demanding money while threatening a building contractor in a Port Elizabeth suburb.
According to police, 39-year-old Luvuyo Baadtjies and 45-year-old Simphiwe Bans Waka were allegedly demanding R100 000 from a developer who was building a satellite police station in Chatty.
The matter was brought to the attention of the National Cold Case Investigation Team last Wednesday.
The developer was allegedly forced to pay the money or the construction of the police station was going to be halted.
A sting operation was conducted and the two suspects were arrested at the Port Elizabeth Airport where they met with the developer to collect the money.
Both suspects appeared in the PE Regional Court on Tuesday where they were charged with extortion, corruption and fraud.
They've been remanded in custody and will be back in court next Tuesday.
The police said further arrests in this case have not been ruled out. - ANA
