Two men missing in sea at Vic Bay

File

The National Sea Rescue Institute said two men are still missing at sea at Victoria Bay despite an extensive search by various role-players this weekend.

Spokesperson, Craig Lambinon, said their NSRI Wilderness duty crew was activated by the police following reports of two swimmers in distress caught in rip currents on Saturday.

He said NSRI rescue swimmers responded directly to the scene while another crew launched the rescue craft, Ann Stratford.

“George Fire and Rescue Services, WC Government Health EMS rescue squad, and the SA Police Services responded.

“Multiple calls were by that stage being received by eyewitnesses reporting the drowning in progress,” Lambinon said.

He said it was confirmed that six young men had come to swim at Victoria Bay when a teenager and a young man were caught in the rip currents.

Lambinon said despite an extensive sea and shoreline search, which continued on Sunday, there was no sign of the missing men.

“On Sunday, 1 September, NSRI Wilderness launched rescue craft and deployed free dive rescue swimmers to assist Police (WPDS) Water Policing and Diving Services, in an ongoing search.

“Also assisting in the search on Sunday are George Fire and Rescue Services, the SA Police Services, and the WC Government Health EMS rescue squad.

“A George Fire and Rescue Services drone is being used in the search,” Lambinon added.
