Two men found shot dead in Booysens Park, Port Elizabeth


Port Elizabeth police are investigating cases of murder after the bodies of two men were found in a field in Vastrap in Booysens Park early Saturday morning.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, says the victims were identified as  Loyola Fotyo (28) from Vastrap and Siyabulelo Speelman(33) from Phola Park in Booysens Park.

"Both victims sustained multiple gunshots to their bodies.  At this stage it is not known what are the circumstances surrounding the fatal shootings.  Police are investigating two cases of murder. No suspects arrested," Naidu said.

Meanwhile, in another incident on Friday police members on patrol in Highfield Road in Shauderville responded after hearing a gunshot and spotting a person running with a firearm in his hand.

"Officers chased the suspect on foot and apprehended him in Durban Road with a Star pistol his possession.  While police were still busy effecting the arrest, a 30-year-old man appeared and informed them that the suspect allegedly shot at him in Highfield Road," Naidu said.

"The complainant alleged that while he was walking, the suspect approached him and asked him whether he belonged to a certain gang. When the complainant walked away, the suspect fired a shot at him," she said.

The suspect, aged 22 years will appear in the Port Elizabeth magistrates' court on Monday on charges of attempted murder, possession of unlawful firearm and possession of unlawful ammunition.

"Police is appealing to anyone who can assist them in the investigation in tracing the suspects in the double murder case to contact them on the anonymous Crime Stop number on 08600 10111 or the nearest police station or the Commander of the Provincial Gang Investigation Unit, D/Lt Col Mike Grobler on 082 442 1825."
