Two people were killed on Thursday morning on the N10 between Cradock and Cookhouse after four trucks collided just before 10 am.
According to Provincial Traffic, all four trucks were travelling from Cradock towards PE.
It is alleged, that the truck in front might have slowed down or rammed on its brakes when the other trucks rammed into it.
A driver and his co-driver from one of the trucks died at the scene while the other drivers escaped unharmed.
The exact cause of the accident is unclear at this stage, although it is suspected that speeding and the failure to maintain a safe following distance is to blame.
A case of culpable homicide is under investigation.
The road is currently closed for traffic.
