Kariega detectives are searching for the driver of a white Mercedes Benz truck following a fatal accident on the R75 on Wednesday.
Spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart says it is alleged that a Toyota Quantum was travelling in the direction of Kirkwood when a truck travelling in the opposite direction collided with the taxi on a slight bend.
She says the driver of the taxi lost control between Cockscomb and Bluecliff before the vehicle rolled killing two passengers.
Captain Swart says the truck was transporting scrap metal and reportedly failed to stop at the accident scene.
A man and woman in the taxi were killed while 12 others were rushed to hospital for medical treatment.
A case of culpable homicide and fleeing the scene of an accident are under investigation following a fatal accident on the R75 on Wednesday.
The names of the deceased are not yet known.
