Two women from the Transkei has died after being struck by lightning.
Police Spokesperson Captain Jackson Manatha says the victims aged 84 and 64 were struck at about 2 pm on Thursday when a storm broke out at Ngqamakhwe.
It is alleged that the two deceased were attending the homecoming of an initiate when the lightning struck.
An inquest docket has been opened by local police. The identities of both deceased are being withheld as some of their close relatives are yet to be informed of their deaths.
Meanwhile, a freak storm also moved through parts of Kwazulu Natal on Thursday with strong winds, lightning and heavy rain in the area.
Several trees were uprooted and local authorities will do an assessment on Friday to determine the extent of the damage.
