Eastern Cape Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide after a state-owned vehicle overturned on the R61 between Tarkastad and Cradock.
Provincial traffic says a man and a woman died on the scene while the driver was critically injured.
The driver was rushed to Cradock hospital for immediate medical care.
The cause of the accident and the names of the deceased are not yet known.
A spokesperson for Correctional Services in the Eastern Cape Thandokazi Marwanqa confirmed to Algoa FM News that the two deceased were not officials from the Department.
