Two people were killed and eight others were injured in a head-on collision on the R61 between Libode and Mthatha on Saturday evening.
The Eastern Cape Transport Department says a Nissan with seven occupants was travelling from Mthatha and collided head-on with an oncoming Toyota Corolla with three men.
Spokesperson, Unathi Binqose says two family members from the Nissan were declared dead at the scene.
The injured were taken to St Barnabas and Nelson Mandela Academic hospitals for further medical treatment.
The cause of the accident is not known and police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.
