The two men accused of the murder of a 60-year-old man from Kabega Park in Gqeberha have abandoned their bids for bail.
Ivan Pokbas, 38, and Riaan Potgieter, 32, appeared briefly in the city's Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
The state alleges that they acted with a common purpose when they killed Lindsay John Humm after breaking into his home in Van Plettenberg Street in the early hours of Sunday morning.
They are said to have gained entry into the house by forcing open a sliding door.
Police discovered Humm's body on his bead with a deep wound on his head.
The pickaxe allegedly used to kill him was discovered next to the bed.
In addition to murder, the accused also faces charges of robbery with aggravating circumstances, housebreaking with the intent to steal, and theft.
Members of the Kabega neighbourhood watch apprehended the two suspects after midnight.
Upon searching their bags they discovered medals, food, medication, cigarettes, and a laptop bag containing the laptop and its charger.
Further investigation by the police led to the discovery of Humm's body.
The case was postponed to the 8th of December for further investigation.
