Two guilty of the murder of elderly PE woman

Two men have been found guilty of the murder of an elderly Port Elizabeth resident, 86-year-old Anne Smit.

Sizwe Jika (28) and Junior Lungisa (20) were convicted in the city's High Court on Thursday on charges of murder, housebreaking and aggravated robbery.

In May 2018, Smit was brutally assaulted when the accused broke into her Martha Street home in Kamma Park. She eventually succumbed to her injuries in hospital

Sentencing will take place on the 14th of April in the Smit case.

Meanwhile, Jika is still awaiting trial for the murder of 83-year-old Anne Ferreira in Summerstrand in May 2018 and the killing of young PE mother, Kelly Bain, in Brymore two months later.

He is already serving an effective 16-year sentence on six house-breaking cases committed between January 2011 and July 2018 in the Kabega Park, Humewood and Mount Road areas.
