Two elderly women killed in EC

Two women, in their 60's, were shot and killed in Mdeni Locality, in Tsomo by men who were posing as police officers, Eastern Cape police said on Tuesday.

Spokesperson Brigadier Marinda Mills said the two women, aged between 65 and 67, were at home on Monday night, when two men, who pretended to be Pretoria police officers entered one of the homesteads.

She said he requested to be accompanied to other house and on arrival to the second house they allegedly shot both of the women.

The women died on the scene and no arrests have been made. She said two cases of murder were opened.

Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt-Gen Liziwe Ntshinga, condemned the senseless killing and vowed that police would leave no stone un-turned to ensure the perpetrators are brought to book.

“We are very shocked and angered by the senseless murder of two elderly women… It is  indeed hitting hard to the core of humanity when it is difficult to fathom what could have possibly caused the brutal killing of  the two women,” Ntshinga said.

“We condemn this  the strongest possible way and I therefore call on our rural communities to urgently come together with local station commanders and Community Police Forums to discuss ways and means to assist each other to better protect our elderly women.”
