Police in Port Alfred have opened up an inquest docket after two people died in a boating accident on Friday morning.
Spokesperson Captain Mali Govender says it is alleged that the boat was returning from sea and whilst trying to enter the Kowie River in town the boat was hit by a wave.
She says the skipper and two occupants went overboard.
Govender says two people are reported to have died and the third was taken to hospital, but his condition is unknown.
Police says the names of the deceased will only be released once the next of kin have been informed.
The Nasional Sea Rescue Institute, which assisted in the operation says the survivor of the incident was a 47-year-old man.
The other two men, aged 81 and 55 were recovered and brought onto East Beach where paramedics administered CPR.
Spokesperson Craig Lambinon says, unfortunately, their efforts were unsuccessful and both men were declared dead on the scene.
The deceased men have been taken into the care of the Forensic Pathology Services.
