An armed robbery suspect was killed and five others were arrested following two dramatic car chases on Eastern Cape roads on Thursday.
The drama unfolded on the road between Dutywa and Willowvale in the morning when Mbashe Municipality law enforcement officers spotted and chased down a hijacked vehicle.
Police spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender, says as they sped towards Ngcobo, the suspects stopped the vehicle and fled on foot. She says they fired shots at the law enforcment officers who returned fire, killing one man and arresting four others.
A fifth suspect managed to evade arrest by jumping into another vehicle which sped off towards King Williams Town where members of the police K9 and other units gave chase and were able to force the car to a stop.
Govender says two men were then arrested.
She says they will appear in court soon and will face several charges.
