The National Prosecuting Authority has charged a bogus Eastern Cape traditional surgeon with two counts of murder.
NPA spokesperson, Nathi Mncube, says Samkelo Mvubu, appeared in the Libode Magistrate's Court this week.
He also faces two counts of contravening the Health Standards Traditional Circumcision Act.
Mncube says Mvubu had operated an illegal circumcisionn school in the Libode area where two intiates died recently.
Meanwhile, he says three male teenagers also appeared in the same Libode court on charges of unlawful circumcision, for circumcising another 16-year-old boy.
Mncube says the young initiate was rescued by the police and is currently in a serious condition at the Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital at Mthatha.
He says the three teenagers were not released to their parents but referred to the Bosasa Place of Safety in Mthatha until their next court appearance next Thursday.
Speaking to Algoa FM News, Mncube says the NPA are taking circumcision-related cases seriously.
"NPA is taking the circumcision-related cases very seriously. We will vigorously prosecute all circumcision related cases without fear, favour or prejudice. And where convictions are secured we shall argue for the harshest sentences. We appeal to the members of the public, especially parents, to be vigilant and expose these of these bogus traditional surgeons and nurses." says Mncube.
