Port Elizabeth police have arrested two suspects in their 20's shortly following a robbery at a fragrance and cosmetic store at Sunridge Village.
Spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu says it is alleged that an unknown person walked into the store just before 12 noon on Wednesday, and threatened the store assistant with a firearm.
She says the woman was locked in at a back room, where after about 3 or 4 more suspects entered and loaded perfume into their bags.
The assistant was freed when another employee, returning from a break, heard her banging on the door.
Naidu says the suspects getaway vehicle was identified through CCTV footage, and members of PE Flying Squad went to the owner’s house in Bluewater Bay.
She says as they were busy interviewing the owner, the suspect (who is owner’s son) drove towards the house, and was cornered at the end of the street.
The 21 year old man was arrested and is being detained for business robbery.
Naidu says further investigations led police to another house in Motherwell, where a 28 year old woman was arrested.
Some of the stolen perfumes together with other expensive equipment was recovered.
A toy gun was also seized.
The woman is being detained on a charge of possession of suspected stolen property.
