Two alleged truck robbers shot dead on R61

Two suspects were left fatally wounded following a shootout with police on the R61 between Mthatha and Ngcobo.

Captain Khaya Tonjeni says members of the Tactical Response Team (TRT) were patrolling the area when they saw a truck being robbed on Wednesday.

Tonjeni says police approached the scene and the suspects opened fire.

He says the officers immediately took cover and returned fire which left two of the suspects fatally wounded on the scene.

Police are searching for two more suspects who are still at large.
