The Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform, Gugile Nkwinti will officially hand over 25 biofuel farms in Cradock in the Eastern Cape on Wednesday.
The department says in a statement it has purchased a number of farms collectively measuring 16 000 hectares in the Cradock, Cookhouse, and Somerset East areas.
The total cost of acquiring the farms was R346 million.
A co-operation agreement was concluded between the department and the Agrarian Research & Development Agency to establish a bio-fuels processing plant in the Eastern Cape, and the farms will ultimately incorporate feedstock to provide the ethanol plant as part of their rotational crops.
