Tsitsikamma community up in arms over land claims

The Amamfengu community, under the Tsitsikamma Development Trust, have threatened to withhold their votes in the upcoming 8th of May if the ANC does not respond to their grievances over land claims.

The community members from Tsitsikamma took to the streets on Tuesday and closed a section of the N2 near Palmietvlei.

The trust's Vice Secretary, Thobile Didize, says  Amafengu launched a land claim in 1996 and it has not proceeded since then.

Didize says many officials who were handling the case have come and gone adding that last year government took their ID documents promising to pay recipients by December last year.

He says the Department of Land Claims has been pushing for the deadline since then.

Didize says the community was forcefully removed in 1976 and they were brought back to the area after 1994.
