A case of malicious damage to property is being investigated following a community protest in which a truck was torched on the N6 between Newlands and East London.
Police spokesperson, Captain Khaya Tonjeni, says residents from the Khwetyana area near Macleantown blocked the road in protest early on Tuesday.
They also set a loaded Value Logistics truck alight causing damage of more than R1.2 million.
Tonjeni says while the reason for the protest is unknown those responsible for burning down the truck fled by foot.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Traffic department earlier advised motorists to exercise caution when approaching the area and to consider using alternative routes.
No arrests have been made.
