A truck transporting four elephants from the Addo Elephant National Park to Samara Karoo Reserve in the Eastern Cape overturned along the Olifantskop Pass on the N10 in the Eastern Cape on Wednesday afternoon.
South African National Parks said in a statement that two recovery vehicles arrived on the scene to assist in the recovery of the truck which crashed between Paterson and Cookhouse.
The road has been blocked, and at the time of writing, it remains closed.
“The intention is to reload the animals onto another truck to complete the journey.
“The elephants were a donation from AENP to Samara,” said SANParks spokesperson, JP Louw.
He said a SANParks vet is also on site to monitor the elephants, that he said appeared to be unharmed.
“There were no injuries incurred in the accident. The intention is to reload the animals onto another truck to complete the journey,” Louw said.
