Members of the tactical response team in the Eastern Cape have shot and killed a suspect following a tip-off that he had a bag full of firearms at a place in the Magutywa administrative area in Tsolo.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa, said the incident happened on Thursday when TRT members acted on the information.
She said when they arrived at the house no one answered, and after forcing open a door to a room they were confronted by a 52-year-old man who pointed a firearm at them.
Mawisa says police responded, fatally wounding the man.
Police seized a firearm and ammunition at the scene.
"An inquest docket was opened at Tsolo SAPS and will be investigated by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID)," she said.
