Heavy rain has caused flooding in Komani in the Eastern Cape, with reports of the Komani River overflowing.
The heavy downpour occurred in the early hours of Wednesday morning, affecting mostly low-lying areas. The Chris Hani District Municipality says their disaster management team is assisting to evacuate those in danger.
Meanwhile, the Municipality says Gali Thembani Special School has been identified as a shelter for those affected.
The District Municipality says the disaster management team is assessing the extent of damages and traffic officials are monitoring the situation on the roads.
There have been no immediate reports of any casualties or fatalities.
Meanwhile, the Eastern Cape Department of Health says because of the resultant power outage in the town, Frontier Hospital to once again operate with backup generators.
Health MEC, Nomakhosazana Meth, said teams are on standby, while also working with the local private hospital and ambulance services to ensure people who need medical assistance, get it.
She says Department will remain on high alert and continue to monitor the situation until things return to normality.
