Three men have been sentenced to several life terms for the murder of a couple in Hogsback in September 2022.
The National Prosecuting Authority said Silindokuhle Mangali (22), Sakhele Limba (34), and Wanda Limba (30), were sentenced in the High Court in Makhanda on Tuesday.
NPA regional spokesperson, Luxolo Tyali, said they were further sentenced to 60 years for rape, robbery, and housebreaking.
The three broke into the home of renowned Fort Hare University academics, Judith Masters (67) and Fabien Genin (51).

They assaulted and stabbed Genin, while Masters was raped before they were both strangled to death.
Tyali said a post-mortem examination revealed the severity of the victims’ injuries, including traumatic brain damage and manual strangulation.
The Director of Public Prosecutions in the Eastern Cape, Barry Madolo, welcomed the sentences, saying it would serve as a powerful deterrent to would-be criminals, while reassuring the public that justice will be served.
