Tributes pour in for professor Jakes Gerwel who has died at the age of 66

 Condolences continued to stream in today following the passing of renowned academic and businessman, professor Jakes Gerwel.

He died in a Kuilsriver Hospital early on Wednesday morning after recently undergoing heart surgery.

The Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University paid tribute to Gerwel who received an honorary doctorate from the institution in 2008.

In August, Gerwel was one of the guest speakers at the launch of NMMU's honorary doctorate exhibition where he spoke out against corruption in the country.
