The trial of an alleged stock thief accused of murder and attempted murder is expected to resume in the East London High Court on Thursday.
The 33-year-old Odwa Ntlangani is accused of stealing livestock from the 47-year-old farmer Jason Winrow in 2016 before allegedly killing him a year later as he was the only witness in the case.
It is alleged that Ntlangani accosted Winrow on the evening of the 28th of July 2017 as he alighted from his bakkie to open the gate of his Donga Creek farm at Bluewater.
He was shot and stabbed to death.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority Ntlangani, a year before Winrow's murder, also violently assaulted an elderly lady on her farm in Lynmar, also in the East London area, where his girlfriend worked as a caretaker.
NPA Spokesperson for the Eastern Cape Anelisa Ngcakani says Ntlangani assaulted and attacked the 82-year-old Adelaide Nomalise Kapa with a panga. As a result, three of the fingers on her right hand had to be amputated.
The State believes that Ntlangani wanted to gain control of the farm as Kapa had no biological children.
Ntlangani is standing trial on all these charges.
