Three Western Cape provincial traffic department vehicles were involved in a serious collision in Mossel Bay on Saturday night.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Kappie Kapp says the accident happened at around 8 pm on the R328 near Hartenbos.
He says Da Gamaskop police have opened a reckless and negligent driving case
On arrival on the scene, they found that three Provincial Traffic vehicles and a Volkswagen Polo had collided.
Three vehicles had left the road and come to a halt in a ditch.
Three injured traffic officials were taken to hospital for further treatment.
Warrant Officer Kapp says the 26-year-old driver of the VW Polo was arrested on the scene on a charge of reckless and negligent driving.
He remains in police custody and will appear in court early this week.
The circumstances surrounding the accident will form part of the ongoing police investigation.
