Traffic officer saves woman from rape


 Butterworth police have commended a local traffic officers for coming to the rescue of a young woman who was being attacked near the local high school.

Police spokesperson, captain Jackson Manatha, says the 20-year-old woman was accosted by a man who demanded her cellphone.

He says when she said she did not have a cellphone she was attacked by the suspect who attempted to rape her.

Manatha says traffic officers on patrol saw what was happening and came to the woman's rescue and arrested the suspect.

He will appear in court tomorrow on a charge of attempted rape.
