The acceptance of a R400 bribe has cost an Eastern Cape traffic cop the next five years of his life in jail.
The 44-year-old traffic official Vuyani Totoyi was found guilty of corruption in the Port Elizabeth Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Wednesday.
Magistrate Lionel Lindoor sentenced him to direct imprisonment of five years for accepting a R400 bribe in Despatch in 2014 from a motorist he'd pulled over for driving with worn tyres.
Totoyi was employed by the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality at the time and had been stationed at the Sidwell Traffic Department.
