Pockets of protest action across Nelson Mandela Bay on Thursday has had a severe impact on traffic.
Captain Johan Rheeder says there's a heavy police presence, and for now, the only way for residents of Uitenhage and Despatch to get to Port Elizabeth is via the Rocklands road - which is open. All other roads to Uitenhage are currently closed.
These situations remain volatile and can change at any moment. Roads are closed for the safety of motorists.
The protest action started on Tuesday night and since then a ward councillor's office was petrol-bombed and several vehicles stoned and set alight.
Residents are reportedly unhappy about service delivery issues.
Four people were arrested earlier this week but no arrests have been made on Thursday.
