The Garden Route Joint Operations Centre is appealing to tourists planning to visit George in the next day or two to delay their visit.
That's due to the current smoky conditions in an around George being caused by the wildfires that have been burning in the Outeniqua mountains since Thursday.
George and surrounds are currently shrouded in a smoky haze and earlier this afternoon the George Municipality ordered the precautionary evacuation of residents in Blanco, Golden Valley and Stepaside in George.
Shelter will be provided at the town hall.
Good news for beleaguered firefighters in the George area is that cooler temperatures with the possibility of some light rain is forecast for Tuesday.
The Outeniqua pass between George and Oudtshoorn remains closed.
Two huey helicopters, two fixed wing water bombers and an SANDF Oryx Helicopter are in place to render aerial support but are unable to go up at the moment because of poor visibility due to the smoke.
More than 300 firefighters from various stations are currently fighting the fires.
