Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism says that an estimated 506 062 visitors came to Nelson Mandela Bay in the first quarter of this year spending in the region of R655.1 million.
In its quarterly report, Tourism says that data collected from its four Visitor Information Centres showed that 7 728 enquiries were received.
It adds that the bulk of the enquiries concerned SANParks, followed by contact numbers, accommodation, attractions, directions and brochures.
The report said that there were an estimated 101 640 foreign visitors to Nelson Mandela Bay during the first quarter with the foreign direct spend put at R234.2 million.
The top countries from which foreign visitors travelled to the metro as reported by accommodation facilities were Germany, the United Kingdom, United States, Netherlands and Switzerland.
As far as domestic visitors are concerned, Tourism reports that there were an estimated 404 421 visitors to the metro in the first quarter who spent in the region of R420.9 million.
Collectively, the report says, a total of some 708 277 bed nights were sold in the first quarter of 2013.
