Tourist robbed and stabbed at Bay beachfront

DA leader, John Steenhuisen, will also be in Nelson Mandela Bay on Monday, to discuss crime and safety issues on the beachfront and the impact on tourism in the area.

The party says the ongoing destruction of municipal assets on the beachfront continues to compromise the tourism industry.

It says delayed repairs further exacerbate safety concerns, ultimately affecting the broader tourism industry and its associated employment.

Steenhuisen will be joined by their provincial leader, Andrew Whitfield and Eastern Cape chairperson, Yussuf Cassim.

On Saturday police in Gqeberha advised tourists not to walk alone in secluded areas.

This after a visitor was robbed of his watch, an undisclosed amount of cash and other personal belongings.

Police spokesperson Lt Col Siphokazi Mawisa says the complainant, who is residing in holiday accommodation, on Saturday decided to take a walk to Happy Valley in the bushes at around 6.30 pm.

She says while he was walking, the man was approached by approximately six men, who demanded he hand over his belongings.

When the complainant indicated he had no money, one of the suspects allegedly attacked him with a knife, stabbing him in the shoulder and the back.

Lt Col Mawisa says no one's been arrested, and the investigation is ongoing.
