Eastern Cape police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Liziwe Ntshinga, has welcomed the life sentence imposed on a former farm worker following a brutal attack on a Hankey farm last March.
On Thursday, 32-year-old Sebenzile Simane, was also jailed for a total of 173 years by Port Elizabeth High Court judge, Olav Ronaasen, for the horror four-hour attack in which a woman was shot and raped in front of her children.
General Ntshinga said the sentences would run concurrently.
Meanwhile, the organization, Afriforum, also welcomed the life sentence imposed on Simane.
The organization, which had been supporting the victim, said it trusts that other courts would follow “this example to drive home the seriousness of the wave of farm attacks that has the country in its grips.”
Head of Community Safety, Ian Cameron, said that it “remains a feeble comfort, however, for the victims of attacks like this one, who must pick up the pieces of their lives and carry on.”
The 45-year-old woman told journalists outside court that she was happy with the sentence but wasn't happy about Simane showing no remorse.
