The Eastern Cape Health Department has confirmed that the 3-year-old boy who was the first to be airlifted from the bus accident scene on a rural road between Butterworth and Centane on Monday, has died at Frere Hospital.
Department spokesperson Sizwe Kupelo says this brings the accurate number of fatalities to 25.
One female passenger is being treated in the Intensive Care Unit at Frere Hospital and five others are recovering in the Orthopaedic Ward.
Including the three-year-old boy, the victims have been confirmed as 10 males and 15 females.
The police investigation team has returned to the crash scene on Tuesday where the bus ended up some 200 metres down a steep embankment and came to rest at the bottom of a heavily vegetated gorge.
The 65 seater bus had 77 people on board and the bus driver was among the fatalities.
