The search for a two-year-old girl who was kidnapped in Kirkwood earlier this month has had a positive outcome.

Police spokesperson, Sergeant Chris Spies, says the child was found in Knysna on Tuesday by members of the Tsitsikamma K9 unit.

He says a 21-year-old woman was arrested and is due to appear in court soon.

Spies says the toddler disappeared on the 4th of August 2021 and a photograph of the woman allegedly seen with the child was circulated on social media platforms.

He says as result police became aware of their whereabouts and an unsuccessful search was launched on Monday.

K9 Officer Jean and the team resumed the search at first light on Tuesday morning and searched a number of homes in the area.

Sergeant Spies says they received a tip-off and pounced on a house in Rolihlahla street where they found the child sleeping in one of the rooms.

A 21-year-old was arrested on a charge of kidnapping.

Spies says the woman is currently in custody but will be transferred to the Eastern Cape where the crime took place to appear in court.
