Tighter restrictions could be on the cards for the Sarah Baartman District following recommendations received by the Health Minister, Dr Zweli Mkhize, during his visit on Wednesday.
The District, along with the Garden Route and Nelson Mandela Bay, has seen a resurgence in Covid19 cases in recent weeks.
Last week President Cyril Ramaphosa declared the Metro a Covid19 hotspot and tightened up some restrictions, including changing the curfew hours to from 10 PM to 4 AM and restricting alcohol retail sales hours between 10 AM and 6 PM from Monday to Thursday.
Speaking after his visit Mkhize said the recommendations received would be presented to the National Coronavirus Command Council and Cabinet.
He said the recommendations were also around curfew times and restricting the hours of sale of alcohol and ensuring enforcement of regulations, particularly around taverns.
"It's more or less the same that we got in the Garden Route," Mkhize said.
The Health Minister also said that South African should enjoy what he said would be a unique Festive Season, but to do so in a responsible manner,
He said decisions around public open spaces like beaches and parks must still be made.
However, Minister Mkhize said as numbers rise in the Eastern Cape, Western Cape, Kwazulu Natal and Gauteng, he had written to his team to ensure that all their plans are in place amid the resurgence.
"Although we don't know how long it will take it was important to say that they must revisit all their plans in terms of hospital management, all the shortages, they need to work on, the re-organisation of the movement of patients into hospitals, we need to look into all of that," he said.
