Police arrested two suspects and seized a revolver and ammunition after three people were shot dead and three others wounded in shooting incidents in Rosedale in Kariega on Friday night.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said the first shooting occurred at the corners of Hawfinch and Seagull Streets when a man opened fire on a group of approaching rival gang members.
She said 18-year-old Jayden Stalmeester was wounded and later died in hospital.
Naidu said the suspect allegedly returned to the corner where the shooting occurred and another man, 28-year-old Dylan Booysen was shot dead as he “was walking the near the suspect.”
She said the third victim was an innocent resident, Nicklyn Ferreira, who came out of his house after hearing the gunshots and was shot multiple times.
“Three more victims, aged between 20 and 26 were also wounded as they were standing outside a nearby tavern. They were taken to hospital for medical treatment,” Naidu said.
She said an 18-year-old teenager was later detained for being in the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition while she said additional charges could be added if he is positively linked to the shootings.
Meanwhile, Naidu said a second suspect was arrested at a house in Seagull Street.
“At this stage, he is detained on two charges of murder and three charges of attempted murder. Detectives are probing a possible link to the murder of Jayden Stalmeester.
The two are due to appear in court on Tuesday.
