Three men appeared in court in Humansdorp to face charges under the explosives Act and Natural Heritage Resources Act.
Police spokesperson, warrant officer Gerda Swart, says Jimmy Uys (53), Paul du Randt (53) and Allan Whithers (52), were arrested on Friday morning following a five month investigation by members of the Bomb Disposal Unit in Port Elizabeth.
Swart says information led police to the three men who allegedly removed non ferrous metals from a shipwreck that was older than 60 years and in the process they illegally made use of explosives.
She says the alleged incidents occurred during March and April this year.
Swart says they appeared in court on Friday and all three were granted bail of R1000 each.
