Three people died tragically in Port Elizabeth when an Audi R8 sports car left the road and rolled onto railway lines.
Traffic authorities reported that the accident happened on the M4 freeway on Sunday evening when the driver of the powerful car lost control of the vehicle around a bend.
According to authorities “there is evidence” that the vehicle hit the pavement, metal guardrails, fencing and then “impacted a metal purline supporting high voltage overhead train cables.”
The bodies of the victims were found some distance from the wreckage of the two-seater car which came to rest near a railway line in a crumpled heap.
The names of the victims have not yet been released.
Police have opened a culpable homicide docket.
