Three suspects are due to appear in court in Makhanda this week following a robbery on a farm in the Salem area in which three people were accosted, tied up, and robbed.
Police spokesperson, Captain Marius McCarthy said two men, aged 22, 24, were arrested on Saturday after the incident occurred.
The third suspect, aged 35, was arrested on Sunday.
McCarthy said it is alleged that a 74-year-old woman was called by a worker who reported a snake in the chicken coop. When they got there he pushed the woman to the ground and tied her up.
He was joined by two other suspects, and they took the woman into the house where a 76-year-old male friend and the woman’s 57-year-old were also tied up with rope.
McCarthy said the suspects took three laptops, a cell phone, a sewing machine, a radio, and clothing as well as an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing.
He said a member of the Makhanda SAPS immediately responded to the complaint and on the way to the scene, he noticed three men with bags running out of the bushes to a waiting car.
McCarthy said the men fled back into the bushes and the officer gave chase, arresting two suspects and recovering all the stolen property.
The third suspect managed to get away but was later arrested.
“The three victims had no serious injuries and were taken to Settlers Hospital for medical treatment,” he said.
