Three arrested for attack on Swiss tourist at Butterworth

Three men have been arrested for the assault and robbery of a Swiss tourist at a local food outlet at Butterworth in the Eastern Cape.

Police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, says the 51-year-old man had booked into a local hotel last Thursday.

He was attacked at his car and stabbed in the upper body at about seven o clock that same evening.

Captain Manatha says the trio, aged 25, 28 and 34 robbed him of a bag with an undisclosed amount of Euros and Swiss dollars in it.

The foreign dollars were recovered on Saturday when the suspects were traced to the Mzantsi Locality Mission Village where they were arrested.

The men appeared briefly in the Butterworth Magistrate's Court on Monday morning on charges of robbery with a knife and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
